So what’s up with Taichung (city)?

Question by Taiwan90851: So what’s up with Taichung (city)?
…soaring crime rate, gangsters, corruption, the mayor in trouble…

I know, I know, I could easily read up on all of this online, but I value much of the information from the Yahoo! “answerers” on this forum. Thanks.

Gee… is it getting that bad over there on the West Side? And to think, I might be moving there in the near future. Thanks for the warning.

Like all big cities, Taichung has its share of troubles. That’s why I prefer the peacefulness of Hualien… aaaahhh…

Where can I buy a chop in Taichung?

Question by chububobcat????: Where can I buy a chop in Taichung?
I am looking to find a chop (a seal stamp) that is used for official documents and things like that. I know being a westerner I don’t need one and that my signature is the same as a chop stamp but I want one because I find them interesting.

Are they expensive to purchase? Where can I find some where in Taichung or some where close to Taichung to buy them.
What are the things that I need to know when getting one, such as how many characters can be on an official seal, what are the different types of chops, anything else is helpful.
Thats one of the problems I ran into when looking at some of my friends chops. They have short surnames and family names, even a lot of the expats that have them only have 4 characters for their Chinese name. Mine is 6 total, even thought the government recognizes my full last name, the also recognize the shortened version that the officer at the immigration office gave me (?) still with one character surname I have a 3 character first name.

Try going to a stationery supply store, if they don’t make them, then they probably know someone who does.

The small wooden ones are less than NT0.
You wouldn’t want to use more that four characters on them; it gets two crowded to read.

I have two I use: a general purpose wooden one, and a Penghu Stone one for “fancy occasions”.

What dates in August are you in? I live in Taichung but I will be on holiday from Aug 4 to 15th, and I am unlikely to be available.
