transportation from taipei other places?

Question by hy: transportation from taipei other places?
Hello, I am visiting TW for 6 days.
I will spend the first 3 days in Taipei and then go to Sun Moon Lake (and Ali Mounntain if I still have time).
Here’ s my question: how do I get there? I guess I will take a train. Which one should I take? How much (estimate) will it cost me? Is it a few hours’ trip? Do I have to go to TaiChung first, and then transfer to Sun Moon Lake? I can’t find anything interesting in TaiChung. Is it feasible to spend 1.5 day visiting Sun Moon Lake and another 1.5 day visiting Ali Mountain?
Yes, I know what to do in Taipei. CKS Memorial Hall, National Palace Museum, Shilin Night Market, Sun Yat-sen Memorial Hall,Rao He Street Night Market,
Taipei 101.
BTW, is it expensive to have a lunch or dinner in Taipei 101?
Thank you in advance.

Hi,

Lunch at 101-It depends whether you want to go to one of the restaurants or the excellent food court in the basement.
It is not over priced as there is a lot of competiton nearby in the Xinyi District.

To SML from Taipei: Take the Bus, It not bad and the bus is really comfortable:
http://www.greenbusgroup.com/p4.htm,
Greenbus has hourly departures. Taipei-SML round-trip costs TWD830.

If you dont have a place to stay at SML: Laurel Villa is highly recommended by forumers:
http://laurelvilla.nantou.com.tw/

From SML, you have to get to Puli, then Puli to Taichung, then Taichung to Chiayi, Then Train or bus it up to Alishan.

Where to buy 1/2 Prince novel in Taiwan?

Question by Fold39Crane: Where to buy 1/2 Prince novel in Taiwan?
I want to buy this novel in Taiwan. I’m looking specifically for the new novel: 1/2?? ??? with the Prince figurine. I probably should have pre-ordered it, but I wasn’t aware that it was coming out.

I know you can buy it on YesAsia, but I’m looking first in Taiwan hoping for a better price. I’m not familiar with the stores in Taiwan. But I will be in TaiChung, Taiwan for a limited time so I hope I can find it.

Eslite’s one of the biggest book store chains in Taiwan and should have the book, but I’m not too sure about the figurine too. My experience is that the biggest department stores also have stores [or parts of bookstores] devoted to manga+anime paraphernalia…

[Also, shipping fee aside, YesAsia prices are about the same if you buy the Taiwanese edition of anything ;)]

China Mainland and Taiwan building strong relations how happy are you? I am HAPPY!?

Question by allperils2050: China Mainland and Taiwan building strong relations how happy are you? I am HAPPY!?
Hi,

I live in Taichung, Taiwan…For all Chinese, Taiwanese, or other friends, how do you feel about China and Taiwan building stronger relations?

I voted for Ma Ying-Jeou and I absolutely love the guy! I also am in love with China’s Hu Jintao and Wen Jiabao. All three leaders are very likable and smart.

I always considered myself to be Chinese first and I never did like America’s hidden hand pushing us apart. My brothers from the Mainland, and Taiwan, lets hear it.

The PAL Wii owner in Taiwan saga continues … My local department store in Taichung City is selling Wii points cards, but I’m worried they might be region specific. Am I going to have to get my folks to send me Wii points from England?

Sunshine Empire Alliance, a Malaysian company, are they legal by asking the public to invest into the company?

Question by perdana: Sunshine Empire Alliance, a Malaysian company, are they legal by asking the public to invest into the company?
this company in singapore had claim that they have been awarded wireless networking project in Taichung, Taiwan.
they are using a system so-called “MLM”, to raise fund. but it’s much more sounds like a “Ponzi” scheme. they ask the public to Invest up to USD00, and they also promise a total return of 200% in 18 months. Half is from the 50% profit of their wireless networking company named EmCom. if the company is making so much money, why dont they loan from the bank instead.

where can I get real windows?

Question by mattfromasia: where can I get real windows?
I am tired of Taiwan’s cold windows.Any place that sells real windows? Live near Taichung.

Best answer:

Answer by We Never Left!!
Hello, “other Matt”.

I have never seen any double-pane/insulated windows in Taiwan. It seems they just don’t make them here. The only reference I have come up with is a paper out of NCCU on the potential market for them; looks like it came out in 2009.

I’d like to have some installed in my own place, so the search goes on!

Why did you choose to teach in Taiwan?

Question by chububobcat????: Why did you choose to teach in Taiwan?
What was your reasoning for coming to Taiwan?
Besides getting a job why chose here, why not Japan, Korea, China, or Thailand?
If you have been here more than 1 year or plan to stay more than a year what is your reasoning?

I came following a woman and because my school did a study abroad with a university in Taichung. I decided to stay because I found that the life style of living in Taiwan suited me better than my life in America. Plus I love the more tropical atmosphere compared to cold cloudy weather in my hometown in Ohio

Best answer:

Answer by TaiwanTeacher
Decided to teach because I felt I might be good at it.

Came to Taiwan to marry the woman I love.

Stayed here because I found the environment that produced my wonderful wife was likewise healthy, happy, and challenging to me.
