Going to university in Taiwan. I have a few questions.?

Question by angelmae3995: Going to university in Taiwan. I have a few questions.?
Hello ^.^
This fall I am going to Kaohsiung to attend a university. (I will not say the name of the school, I feel that is not safe so do not ask) I know it is a good school though.
what I would like to know is:
~What kind of plug adapter will I need for my laptop.
~How safe is Kaohsiung at night.
~What areas should I avoid.
~How is the public transportation Network
~What items should I bring
~How hard are university classes in Taiwan
~How much can I earn tutoring English/French/Spanish
~How friendly or racist are the people in Kaohsiung
~What should I visit, Besides Love River and Dream Mall when I am in Kaohsiung?

Yeah it’s quite a few, but I am going to be in Kaohsiung for anywhere from 2-4 years so…..
Thank you guys so far! I would really like some more opinions too so please keep posting.
Thanks, classy! I will get a surge protector!

Ok, check out http://tealit.com

If you are from N. America no adapter will be needed most likely for your notebook computer. If your laptops plug has 3 prongs you may need a small, cheap adapter to get it to plug into the common 2 prong plug ins here. The voltage is the same.

Kaosiung is safe at night. It has an MRT (subway) system now, so I would imagine transportation there is an improvement on Taichung’s.

From what I hear university is easy in Taiwan.

You can earn 700NT and up per hour tutoring.

People are positively racist towards whites. Somewhat negatively racist towards other Asians but not to their face. Neutral towards blacks and friendly to their face. Everyone is generally friendly.

Grammar check..help?

Question by China Boy: Grammar check..help?

I pass it finally. The activity is kind of difficult for me; but, through the activity, I knew that there are also many beautiful and fun places in Kaohsiung. I feel the activity is great. I leaned not only a lot of history stories, but also the origin of hometown. Furthermore, my ability in Spanish is polished. Hope there are a lot of activities like this one in the future; it make me know more about the unknown.

Question by Bubba Bob Dixie: Taiwan hiking: Trailhead maps?
Is anyone familiar with the Sun River Map company’s atlas of Taiwan? Does it contain hiking trail information on the map?
If anyone else can suggest a similar, comprehensive trail guide (maps preferred, Chinese Ok) and knows where to buy them in either Kaohsiung of Taipei city, then much obliged to you in advance.

I need help with my English? PLEASE??

Question by Little red riding hood: I need help with my English? PLEASE??
Please help check if there are any grammar, spelling or phrases mistakes, I would really appreciate that cause this is really important to me. (just do something to make my story better) here:If you think you have spent the day profitably and want to take a rest, then why not go to the Love River to take a walk? When I was born, the Love River is still an unnoticeable sticky ditch, but now, it’s completely different. Not only the Love River is much beautiful than before, it also make Kaohsiung more colorful. You can hear the pleasant sound of musical instrument playing while tasting the delicious coffee along the riverside. Not only that, when you’re taking a walk, you might found out artists are busy helping passerbies to paint or some innocent little children picking flowers from the ground. This beautiful scene can appear more about Kaohsiung people’s temperament and enthusiasm.

I am Arriving in Taiwan?

Question by angelmae3995: I am Arriving in Taiwan?
I’ll be arriving in Taiwan at Chiang Kai- Shek on the 21st at 9:30pm. I do not really want to stay in the airport overnight so my question is this:
Is there a cheap hotel or hostel near the airport? If so, do you have a link to their website? And then is there a shuttle to the train station in Taipei to take me to Kaohsiung? I am going to University in Kaohsiung.

Best answer:

Answer by kliu0
I don’t know the timetable, but there is a free shuttle service for those wanting to go on the High Speed Rail service, which can take you to Kaohsiung in under 1 and a half hours (Basically the shuttle service takes you to Taipei Main Station which is the hub for Taipei metro, Taiwan Rail and High Speed Rail). There should be a few hotels/motels nearby, but if you want you can take a taxi to Taipei city and live in one of the better hotels/motels.

Finding an address in Taiwan?

Question by anthonywalters1: Finding an address in Taiwan?
I am currently trying to look for the address of a friend of mine; her name is Kerry Lim and she lives in Kaohsiung City or Kaohsiung County somewheres. Is there an online phone directory for taiwan that can help me out? or something that will help me find where she lives?

I dunno if this postal address helps or not either, but the postal code is
#80 – 999 36

Please help! this is very important!

Best answer:

Answer by Overseas E
All of the information is in Chinese.

You would have to have her Chinese name, and last known address.

Even then, there might be many people with the same name living in the Kaohsiung area.

Can I use PowerPoint as a DVD menu?

Question by wojiao_chicago: Can I use PowerPoint as a DVD menu?
I put hyperlinks on powerpoint, and added music, and it works on my computer, (I made a movie for my mom’s graduation, and what a personalized DVD menu) but I’m just wondering if it will work when I burn it to a DVD and play it on my TV…

Thanks,

Kaohsiung_Michigan

Answer by dhvrm
No. You need to use DVD formatting software for video to play in a DVD.

There are a number of commercial converters available that will convert Powerpoint to DVD. I’ve not used any so I can’t say if any of them is worth using.
